TREK TO PETH FORT

Trek to Peth fort
Peth ( Kothaligad) is one of the famous trek near Mumbai specially in monsoon season… I, as a member of Yashwanti Adventures (http://yashwantiadventures1.blogspot.in/) , (http://yashwantiadventures.hpage.com/) successfully completed  a trek to Peth fort on 7 & 8 April 2012. We were total of 33 peoples. Many of them are students who completed their HSC exams. Its really difficult to handle them & their masti…

Basically it is one day trek. But its fun when there is overnight trek with stay in Caves on fort.. The whole fort is carved from one stone i.e. Kothala. That’s why it is called as Kothaligad. Peth is the base village ( named Peth fort). Agriculture and milk product production is the main business of this village. “KHAVA” is exported to many famous shops in Mumbai.
  Way to go Peth fort-
1. Catch train for Karjat from Cst or Pune.
2. From Karjat depot get direct Buses which goes to Jambrukh will let you at Ambivali ( very less frequency, First bus 8.15 am) or get TUMTUM ( 6 seater auto) to Kashele. And from Kashele get another auto or bus to Ambivali.
3. Peth village can be easily reach by walk of 2 hours from Ambivali. There is only one bullock cart road which goes to peth village. The road is very muddy but in monsoon it opens nature to you.
4. Peth fort is one hour climb from Peth village. There is no chance to loose the route.
  Places to see on fort-
1. Caves- This carved is very well carved, plain and well mentained. Around 50 peoples can accommodate here. Water is also available from ponds near Caves.
2. Canon on fort.
3.  Caves at Ambivali.

My first batch of 22 peoples peoples caught train at 1.40 pm.. They reach Ambivali by 5.30 pm ( by 4.15 bus from Karjat depot)… We 11 caught train of 6.24 pm. As per our 1st batch information there is a last bus for ambivali is 8.15 pm but when we inquire the last bus already left at 6.15 pm..  We caught another bus which goes to Kashele in hurry ( Some of group members are eating Wada pavs by this time). We got down to Kashele at 9 pm about. We are not getting any 6 seater rikshaw to Ambivali. However one rikshaw agrees but on condition to left till his house which is before 4 kms. ( charged Rs. 200/- for 10 of us) from there everybody wants to go by walk..  Night walk… Moon is also so clear.. But I stop a Chota hatti ( small tempo) which is delivering rice to some village after ambivali. I sat on the one rice packets; on the edge by keeping my legs hanging to the road.. it was awesome journey.. Every new event gives change to our life and increases the fun of living….
Finally we reach to ambivali by 9.45 pm.. everyone welcomes us by clapping.. During this time my first batch has visited Caves near Ambivali, have ate Maggies..
We have stayed at Gopal Sawant’s house ( Hotel Kothaligad) near Ambivali. We had camp fire. When time for sleeps come nobody was agree. Hounted stories is my favourite programme during overnight trek. We have targeted one already as usual. I did not sleep till 2.30 am..
After taking tea and breakfast, our actual trek started at 8.15 am.. It takes 2.15 hrs to reach Peth village.. The village has around 15 to 20 houses.. There is no transportation to Peth village from Ambivali except bike. That too very dusty road.. Road can be developed here but our state govt. is no aware of such villages. A long back I ate Pepsi of Rs. 1 which I used to eat in my child age. We reach to caves at 11.15 am. Rested in caves.. it was awesome… The main attraction of this fort is caves and carved route to top..
We start descent at 12.30 pm. There is bus to Karjat depot at 2.30 pm from Ambivali. And the last bus is at 6 pm. Back to Karjat.. Very refreshing trek..
